Eat Local Challenge featuring a Farmers’ Market

On Tuesday, September 29, students at DePauw University will get a chance to participate in Bon Appétit Management Company’s Eleventh Annual Eat Local Challenge!  Every year, our talented chefs prepare a meal with ingredients sourced exclusively from within 150 miles of the café.  While the availability of certain foods varies regionally, all of our chefs love rising to the challenge of creating outstanding, diverse meals from the seasonal bounty harvested and produced nearby.  Bon Appétit held its first Eat Local Challenge in 2005. Even though we’d launched our Farm to Fork program over half a decade earlier, in 1999 — requiring our chefs to source at least 20 percent of their ingredients locally, year-round — we had no idea what a huge variety of local non-produce items, such as oils and grains, were available all around us until we started looking for them to fulfill the Challenge.
